Introducing a new series: Songwriting Tools

Announcing a new journey

Just wanted to let you know, next Friday I will be introducing a new series of short blogs on songwriting tools.

My aim is to initially get to 10 or so posts and then see where we go from there. If they are helpful, let me know.

This has been something I’ve wanted to try for a while. I think it’s going to be fun to zoom in and out of the songwriting process, covering a range of tools, including:

  • Further Song Maps
  • General lyric writing tools
  • Song development tools
  • Payoff tools
  • Song section tools
  • Song title tools
  • Lyric line tools
  • First line tools
  • Word tools
  • Rhyme tools
  • Review tools
  • etc.

I’ll be aiming to cover a broad waterfront, incorporating ideas and lessons I’ve picked up from many resouces along the way, including Berklee Music, other courses and my own research.

  1. Hi Simon. I wrote a review of your “Song Maps” book for Amazon. 5 guesses (hint, hint) how many stars it got. I even mentioned it should be bought even before your professor’s book. Thanks for sharing your genius with the rest of the world. Best of luck to you and may God continue to bless you.
